今回の特集は、緑豊かな美しい海岸線が続くアイルランドの南岸を取材。歴史ある港や灯台と共に暮らす、海を愛する人々と豊かなセーリング文化を切り撮った、海洋カメラマン矢部洋一の写真とレポートで綴っています。

この海岸線には、コークカウンティ―（コーク県）にある世界で最も古いヨットクラブ「ロイヤルコーク ヨットクラブ」があり、創立されたのは1720年。305年も前のことで、当時、日本は江戸時代中期、かの暴れん坊将軍で知られる第8代将軍、徳川吉宗の時代です。このクラブの全容も記事で紹介されています。

This issue features Ireland's south coast, its beautiful coastline and lush greenery. It is made up of photos and reports by marine photographer Yoichi Yabe, he captures the images of people living with the sea and the rich sailing culture that coexists with the historic ports and lighthouses.  The county is home of the Royal Cork Yacht Club, the oldest yacht club in the world, founded in 1720.  305 years ago in Japan in the middle of the Edo period under one of the most respected Shoguns, Yoshimune.  The long and rich history of the club will be told.

昨年、日本に初上陸した、現役の帆船では世界最大にして最も美しいイタリア海軍の〈アメリゴ・ヴェスプッチ〉の全容を紹介。航海の途中、大時化に遭遇した話など、本誌ならではのインタビューを船長から直接聞いてレポート。

Another feature is the story of the Amerigo Vespucci, the largest and most beautiful active Italian Navy’s sailing ship that made its first landing in Japan in 2024 during their round the world voyage. We had an exclusive interview with the captain.  He showed us the ship in details and shared many interesting stories with us.
